Diabetic foot care is important to prevent serious complications, including infections, ulcerations and amputations. To avoid foot problems, follow these simple tips:

- Check your feet: Lookfor cuts, redness, swelling, sores, blisters, corns, or calluses.
- Wash your feet: Wash your feet daily with warmwater and mild soap. Dry them thoroughly, especially between the toes.
- Apply a moisturize to prevent dry skin: Do not apply lotion between the toes.
- Wear shoes and socks: Always wear shoes and socks or slippers, even inside. Make sure your shoes fit well and are smooth on the inside.
- Trim your toenails: Trim your toenails straight across and file any sharp edges.
- Do not treat corns and calluses at home: Don't try to remove corns or calluses yourself.
- Schedule appointments: Seeing the podiatrist on a regular basis can prevent complications.
- Wear diabetic socks: Diabetic sock have extra cushion and do not have elastic at the ankle and are made to keep moisture away from the skin.
