The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) is encouraging individuals and providers across the Commonwealth to participate in an exciting initiative to promote physical activity. By recording and sharing your physical activity experiences, you can inspire others to get moving and lead healthier lives. Interested participants or providers can get more information by emailing hjoseph@pa.gov with "Move Your Way" in the subject line. Physical activity has numerous benefits, from improving sleep and boosting immunity to reducing stress and strengthening social connections. Adults should aim for at least 150 minutes of aerobic activity, like walking or biking, each week, along with two days of muscle-strengthening exercises, such as lifting weights or doing household chores. Regular exercise can lower the risk of chronic conditions like Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Staying active outdoors requires extra care. To stay safe, stay hydrated even when you're not thirsty, and pace yourself to avoid overexertion. Be cautious of your surroundings, and wear shoes with good traction. If you're active in low light, wear reflective gear and carry a flashlight for visibility. For more details on how to get involved and stay active safely, visit myopd.org.
