Recently, people began looking into no pharmacological interventions (npi) for many health conditions, such as pain, hypertension, and insomnia. Studies have shown when a provider encourages individuals to take an active role in their own well being the patient has shown better health outcomes. This proactive approach has increased the popularity of “non pharmacological interventions”, which means that patients are trying different methods to manage their health conditions. Some example of non pharmacological interventions include:
● Dietary changes
● Vitamins and/or Mineral supplements
● Journalizing
● Distraction
● Visualization
● Yoga, Meditation and Mindfulness
Some people are using NPI in addition to their current medication regimen, while others are using these interventions to improve their overall health so they do not need to take medication in the future. Regardless of when or why a person begins, they should keep in mind that their actions today will define their outcome tomorrow.
