National Immunization Awareness Month
August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM), which is celebrated yearly to remind us of the importance of vaccinations for people of all ages. Vaccines can provide an effective way to prevent illness and disease for conditions such as the Flu, Shingles, Tetanus, HPV, Pneumococcal Disease and more. Vaccines not only help protect you, but they also help to protect your communities by preventing and reducing the spread of disease. Although our risk for these conditions can vary based on one’s age and health status, it is important to take the time to talk to your healthcare provider to find out what vaccinations are right for you. At Philadelphia Coordinated Health Care (PCHC), we offer Health Promotion Activity Plans (HPAP’s) that include conditions in which an immunization is recommended for such as, Hepatitis and Pneumonia.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides up to date information on vaccines recommended throughout a person’s life span. They are provided in an easy to read format at: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/easy-to-read/
